DEVOTED TO THE WORD OF GOD

Cove Kids stands by the phrase of “caught not taught”. Children mimic our behavior which makes it so important for us to display the example of what we want our children to exemplify. If we want our kids to read the Bible, we need to give them a big why. “Just do it!” is not sufficient. Why read the Bible every day? Because, along with the faithful preaching of God’s word, regular Bible reading is the primary and usual way God speaks to us today. The Scriptures are not just words of wisdom to make our lives better, but the words of eternal life that can make us “wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus”(2 Timothy 3:15).

Make it fun for your preschool age child. There are many Bible Devotions available for children that can make it fun and interactive. Reading your Bible doesn’t mean that you have to sit down and read out a chapter of scripture at a time. There are good devotions for kids that can be found on the YouVersion app. Another great app is the Bible App for Kids that provides opportunities to have interactive fun with Bible stories.

Here are a few devotions you can read with your preschooler.

God’s Good News

This is a Life Church devotional based off of the curriculum Cove Kids uses. It also answers the question, What is the Bible all about?

How Great is Our God

This is a great devotional that uses animals, science, and fun facts to help teach who the Lord is in a great fun way. It also shows how alive and intentional God is in everything around us.

As our children get older it is important that we present things in a way that looks exciting for them. There are now different Bibles geared towards young teens and children. Another important piece would be to find a translation that is easy for your child to understand what they are reading. Here are a few examples of Bibles that are great for grade school aged children.

NLT Hands-On Bible

This Bible has a fun look to it, but also includes fun questions and hands on activities to allow kids to think a little deeper about Bible stories.

Journaling Bible for Girls

This is a great Bible for a girl who loves to doodle and make notes. As children get older they start to learn how to take notes to help understand what they are learning. You can teach your child to use this Bible during sermons and devotions to make notes for future references.

How to Help Your Grade Schooler get started?

First, you can be the example for them to follow. When they see you spending time in the Word it will make an impression upon them.

Second, give them a plan and show them how to execute. Find a devotion plan together that your child is excited about. Find a time in the day that works best for you and your child and do a devotion together. Create that habit of spending time in His word daily, and show them how to use the devotion as a daily reflection.

Give Questions and Answers

Teach them questions to ask while they are reading the Bible. What does this passage teach us about God? Is anything repeated during this passage? Why do you think it’s repeated? Teach them to read the passages and ask questions about what they are reading.

If you don’t know an answer that your child asks you, it is ok. Use that opportunity to show your child how to find an answer. We don’t always have the answer and it is important for your child to understand that no one always has the answer. We don’t need to always know the answer when a question is asked.

Keep encouraging your child to dig deeper in the Lord’s Word to build a stronger relationship with Him.
