Knowing God
If you have recently come to have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, what's the next step? How do you really get to know God? Check out the information below to give you a step in the right direction.
How can someone know God?
We can know God only through a relationship with Jesus.
Why is a relationship with Jesus so important?
The Bible tells us in John 14: 6 that Jesus is the only way to God, the Father.
Jesus said, "I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. The only way to the Father is through Me. If you really knew Me, you would know my Father, too. But now you do know Him, and you have seen Him."
The Bible says that God created us in His image for one purpose, and that is for a personal relationship with Him. John 3:16 tells us,
"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."
What, then, is the problem?
The Bible tells us that everyone has sinned. Romans 3:23 states,
"… all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God."
Sin is disobeying God. And every human is born with the capacity to sin. It is our nature to disobey and lead our own lives.
So now what?
The Bible tells us in Romans 5:8 "God shows His great love for us in this way: Christ died for us while we were still sinners."
God came to earth in the form of a man. That man is Jesus. Jesus' purpose was two-fold: to show us how much God loves us, and to bridge the gap between us and God. He did this through His death on a cross (the penalty for sin), and His resurrection from the grave.
What is the next step in deciding where you are?
God's gift to us is free - and the choice is ours whether to accept it or not. Revelation 3:20 says
"...I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with Me."
To accept the gift means that you ask Jesus to be the Leader and the Forgiver of your life. If that is your choice, then pray this prayer with all of your mind & heart:
God, I admit that I have not obeyed you, and that I have wanted to lead my own life. I know that this is sin. God, I believe that You love me and You sent Jesus Christ, Your Son, to die for my sin. Jesus, I believe that You are alive today and that You died for me, and I want You to come and be the Leader of my life. Thank You for bringing me to God. Amen
